Lanctot Takes Top Regis Award, Honored As Mother Regis
Four years of undying dedication, community involvement, and athletic achievement stood at the forefront of the recently held 2006-2007 Athletic Awards Ceremony. The Mother Regis Award, presented annually to a graduating senior, recognizes the pinnacle of Regis College Athletics. The 2006-2007 award was deservedly presented to senior Track & Field captain Kristen Lanctot of Somersworth, New Hampshire.
Among the criteria for selection, the honoree must demonstrate academic excellence, outstanding contributions to athletics, and excellence through leadership and service including involvement both within and outside the Regis community.
Lanctot fully exemplified the spirit of the award through her four-year athletic career. Lanctot competed in four years of both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field for the Pride, serving as captain her junior and senior year. Currently the Regis school record holder in the Outdoor 400-meter and Indoor Triple Jump, Lanctot also makes up part of three school-record holding relay teams, including the Indoor 4x200, 4x400, and the Outdoor 4x100. Over the course of her career, Lanctot has qualified for the New England Track & Field Championships twice with a relay squad, both in her junior year, with the 4x200 Indoor, and the 4x100 Outdoor events. In addition, the four-time team Most Valuable Athlete competed in the prestigious Penn Relays as a junior.
The senior Nursing major, with a minor in Biology, is carrying a 3.8 (of a 4.0 scale) grade-point average heading towards graduation. Lanctot is a Regis Presidential Scholar, a consistent Dean's List recipient and a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. In addition to her athletic and academic successes, Lanctot has been heavily involved on campus. A member of the Regis College Dance Company for all four years, serving as director since 2005, she has also been a Dorm Resident Assistant during the current academic year, and has served as a Peer Tutor since 2004. In addition, Lanctot has served as a Laboratory Assistant in 2005.
The 2007 Mother Regis Award recipient has accepted a Registered Nurse Position at Exeter (N.H.) Hospital beginning this summer.
